🫡 No offense, Linus Torvalds... but this man is the greatest geek of our time.

📟 In 1971, at the age of 28, he created UNIX, the system on which the entire modern Internet is built.

🦫 In 2009, at the age of 66, he became a co-author of the Go language, one of the most popular languages in the world of DevOps and microservices.

💥 But this is just the beginning:

▪ He developed the B language, which became the basis for the C language
▪ Created UTF-8, an encoding that allows us to see text in any language on the Internet
▪ Invented grep - a command that no developer can do without
▪ Worked on Multics, Plan 9, Inferno - four operating systems created by one person

🧠 Most people don't use even two OS in their lives. And he created four.

And yet...
Almost no one knows about him.

Remember the name: Ken Thompson.
🛠 One of those who literally built the digital world we live in.

🏛 Rome wasn't built in a day... but grep was built almost overnight 😎

The story of how grep was created is truly fascinating.

One of the creators of the UNIX operating system, Ken Thompson , developed grep literally "overnight".

In fact, he already had a personal tool for searching text in files.
One day his boss, Doug McIlroy, came up to him and said:

"You know, it would be great to be able to search for what you need in files."

Thompson replied:

"Okay, I'll think about it tonight."

He came home, refined his old code, fixed bugs - and all this took no more than an hour.

The next day he showed the result to McIlroy.
He exclaimed:

"This is exactly what I needed!"

And then it's history.

🤔 If you're wondering why the tool is called grep and not just search, there's a pretty logical explanation 👇
